Ball valves are commonly used as fluid shutoff valves in domestic or industrial applications
ball valves are isolation valves that offer a degree of flow regulation.
A gate valve moves a solid disk up and down to open/close the orifice. A ball valve rotates a ball (the orifice) with a bore in it 90 degrees to open/close the valve.
When the handle of a ball valve is parallel to the valve or pipe, it's open. When it's perpendicular, it's closed. This makes it easy to know if a ball valve is open or closed, just by looking at it.
Rotation is clockwise for “OFF” (closed) and counter clockwise for “ON” (open).
A ball valve life expectancy is about eight to ten years.
The ball valve is used as shut-off valves in the distribution of hot and cold water. Ball valve is used as a fitting closure for the distribution of drinking and service water.
Clean the surface of the flange or pipe thread that will come in contact with the ball valve to ensure it is free of rust and debris. Wash with water or a mild detergent if needed. Make sure there is no warpage of the flange or misalignment of the ball valve in relation to the flange.
Ball valves can burst due to a variety of reasons. Leakage can occur when the valve isn't closed correctly due to debris or if the seal or valve is damaged. The leading causes of water ball valve leakage: The ball valve may leak internally if it is damaged or transported improperly.
Ball valves can be installed in any orientation. However in bigger sizes to reduce load on the valve caused by the actuator or gearbox trying to pull away it may be necessary to install with the drive shaft vertical.
